About the role

An exciting opportunity has risen for the Libraries Area Manager.

This position is permanent 37 hours per week, working in various locations across North Northamptonshire, but based at Kettering Library.

The ability to travel to other locations in the county, often at short notice, to deal with emergencies, attend meetings, training and to work collaboratively with Library Managers, colleagues and partner organisations is essential. 

Responsible for a direct team of five Library Managers and reporting to the Library Service Business Manager.

What will you be doing?

You will lead the team of Library Managers to develop operational projects for the service, negotiating with and influencing partner organisations to achieve income and outcomes for the service. Innovative thinking and change management experience are essential.

Creating and reviewing policies and procedures and making recommendations which contribute to the continual improvement and development of the service will be an important part of the role.

You will undertake regular one to one reviews to set outcomes in line with the library service strategic vision, identify achievements, to future plan and resolve issues.

 

About you

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous experience of successfully leading a motivated team, supporting, coaching and developing staff to ensure that all aspects of the running of the statutory library service are carried out to deliver business continuity in a well maintained, safe building.

Resilience will be essential in supporting the Library Managers through a variety of difficult issues.  The ability to communicate effectively at all levels is essential in dealing with compliments and complaints and councillor enquiries.

Previous experience of managing financial transactions and budget management would be an advantage.
