About the role
The Countywide Traveller Unit Manager works across both the North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire areas.
The post holder will manage a multi-agency approach to support Travellers and settled communities across the County. They will lead on enforcement of unauthorised encampments, in a way which fosters good relations and respects the rights and responsibilities of all communities
What will you be doing?
The post holder will direct and manage the strategic, business and operational planning of the Countywide Travellers Unit ensuring that it meets mandatory and professional standards.
The successful candidate will manage unauthorised encampment enforcement across the County, acting as an agent for all partner authorities including the Police.
They will also manage a small team and ensure that specialist advice is provided on the Gypsy and Traveller community to elected members, the public, businesses and other council officers. They will produce and present reports to Elected Members as required on all matters within the remit of the role.
About you
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and negotiation skills. You must be Educated to Degree standard (or hold equivalent experience) and have considerable experience of working in a politically sensitive and high profile environment.
The post holder must also have substantial experience of working with Travellers and the general public and a comprehensive knowledge of Traveller legislation, cultures and lifestyles.
