We have an exciting opportunity to join a small team at the Discover Northamptonshire Hub at Rushden Lakes as a Discover Northamptonshire Officer. The officer will support the day to day delivery of this innovative Tourist Information Centre, and will play a key role in the development of key business operations such as the retail and meeting hire spaces to ensure maximum revenue for the site. The role will support the Discover Northamptonshire Manager in delivering the new Tourism Strategy and Local Visitor Economy Parntership for Northamptonshire, working with our partners to build a greater sense of pride across Northamptonshire and drive economic growth by attracting people to visit the county.
The Discover Northamptonshire Officer will be a main point of contact for all North Northamptonshire tourism and cultural businesses and will support frequent networking and collaboration events.
The role will also include delivering small and large scale events taking place across North Northamptonshire, to grow awareness of the sector and grow revenue streams for the service. Due to the nature of the business, regular weekend and Bank Holiday working is required.
This is an exciting time to join a new Culture, Tourism and Heritage service which covers a wide range of areas including The Chester House Estate, Corby Heritage Centre, Cornerstone, the Northamptonshire Archaeological Resource Centre and the North Northamptonshire Greenway project.
What will you be doing?
Oversee the day-to-day running of the Discover Northamptonshire Tourism Hub at Rushden Lakes, managing a casual and volunteer team.
Create great visitor experiences by delivering engaging activities that bring the centre to life in innovative ways.
Publicise the centre's services and implement marketing strategies to raise the centre’s profile, increase footfall and income.
Manage the EPOS till system and online booking systems.
Support business development by identifying new opportunities to drive income and innovation, using team and visitor feedback.
Contribute to and deliver the property business plan.
Supervise and support volunteers, ensuring effective communication, adequate supervision, and well-managed rotas within the agreed wage budget.
Deliver events across North Northamptonshire to promote local tourism and cultural offerings, including major events like the Corby Fireworks.
Handle visitor enquiries, correspondence and complaints in a timely, positive, and professional manner.
Deliver priorities outlined in the Northamptonshire Tourism Strategy.
Support the delivery of the Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP).
Contribute to the implementation of the 2025 North Northamptonshire Culture Strategy alongside key industry stakeholders.
Observe all Health & Safety and statutory regulations within the Tourism Hub.
Monitor and report on key performance indicators (e.g., footfall, income, visitor satisfaction) to evaluate success and inform future strategy.
Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders including local businesses, tourism boards, community groups, and council departments.
Manage and contribute to digital marketing, social media content, and the centre’s online presence.
Deliver induction, training and ongoing support for new volunteers and casual staff.
Promote accessibility and inclusivity to ensure the centre is welcoming to all visitors.
Support sustainable tourism practices in alignment with local and national environmental goals.
About you
Have experience of working in the leisure and tourism sector.
Be experienced in delivering small and large-scale events, from concept to delivery.
Have excellent customer service skills and maintain high standards in a visitor-facing environment.
Have experience in retail, business development, marketing and/or visitor services.
Possess excellent IT skills, with the ability to manage EPOS and online booking systems.
Have strong relationship management and influencing skills, with the ability to build partnerships across sectors.
Be a self-starter who can work independently, use initiative and think creatively to solve problems and spot opportunities.
Be confident managing and motivating volunteers and casual staff, including rota planning and basic training.
Have experience or understanding of social media, digital marketing and content creation to support audience engagement.
Be well-organised, proactive, and comfortable balancing multiple priorities.
Be able to manage budgets, track performance, and contribute to strategic plans and reports.
Be committed to accessibility, inclusivity, and sustainability in tourism.
Be flexible to work weekends, evenings and public holidays, as required by the role.
