About the role

This role is part of the Emergency Planning Team. The team works to make NNC ready for emergencies, by assessing hazards and threats, then making plans and procedures to respond.

The role will play a key part in making North Northamptonshire prepared for emergencies by working within the authority, with communities and other responders for the benefit of our residents. You will be responsible for a small team of Emergency Planning Officers. 

The role is 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday. After a period of training, you will join an on-call rota that provides 24/7 cover for the council to respond to emergencies that can happen at any time. Although the role is predominantly completed in normal office hours, the nature of the work requires flexibility and a willingness to work unsocial hours as required.

What will you be doing?

The Emergency Planning Team Leader role supports the Head of Emergency Planning in the

management and supervision of a small team improve the resilience and preparedness of North

Northamptonshire. They have a leading role in the planning and delivery of a a coordinated

programme of work to ensure that multi-agency contingency plans and arrangements are

developed and agreed. It is part of their role to ensure that plans are fit for purpose and the

various elements of emergency planning activity integrate effectively.

The EP Team Leader is part of the a duty officer system and provides the initial point of contact

for the emergency services for Northamptonshire and is expected to mobilise and coordinate

appropriate response arrangements. As an incident progresses they will provide expert advice to

decision makers and work to find solutions to complex problems.

About you

Emergencies can happen any time, and we need to be ready for them. The successful candidate will be flexible and willing to meet the demands of emergency response and the needs of our residents. You must be willing to take part in an on-call rota to provide out of hours cover for the authority. This role can deal with some challenging subjects and a great deal of personal resilience can be needed.

Candidates should have sound knowledge of civil protection and emergency management arrangements in the UK and how local responders can deliver them. You will have experience leading diverse teams and developing staff to perform in their role.

Successful candidates must be keen problem solvers. They should be able to produce creative and pragmatic solutions to resilience challenges. Candidates should be used to working with basic IT applications. We often use maps, and candidates should be comfortable using maps to communicate geographic information.
