Head of Digital
SM1 - up to £70,492 per annum. 37 hours per week.
North Northamptonshire is currently on an exciting journey to transform its infrastructure and services for its citizens in the county. As part of this, we are looking for an experienced Head of IT Digital(product) to Join our growing Technology Digital and Data Service. This is the perfect time to join as we build on our digital Journey and strategy with our colleagues and partners to create brilliant and modernised services, platforms and infrastructure; and to make the best out of our investments in our technology and teams.
The ideal candidate for the role will be responsible for building on the Digital strategy for North Northamptonshire, working collaboratively with colleagues, partners, and other senior leaders across the county. You will also be influencing, developing, and working with a multidisciplinary Digital function which includes product management, business analysis, User research, UX design, content design and service design to deliver products that the meet user needs of residents.
You will also need to be familiar with working on large transformational projects, showing a deep understanding of user centred design, product principles, practices, and methods. Being an expert in understanding new business environments, critical success factors and organisational culture.

What will you be doing?
- Building on the Digital strategy for North Northamptonshire, working collaboratively with the team and other senior leaders.
- Providing leadership in defining and shaping digital transformation projects, by developing a credible delivery roadmap, establishing an agile and sustainable delivery model, and securing the agreement to prioritisation from senior managers in service departments.
- Influencing and leading a multidisciplinary Digital function, including our websites, product management, business analysis, User research, UX design, content design and service design
- Leading Digital product development across a range of critical services, giving strategic direction and coaching senior leaders in product thinking.
- Work closely with Digital partners and colleagues across the organisation, providing strategic oversight of work as well as line management and career development.
About you
- Deep understanding of Digital product principles, practices, and methods
- Knowledge of modern technology, including cloud technology, architecture, agile delivery methods and software practices
- A deep understanding of user-centred design and service design
- A deep applied knowledge of agile ways of working
- Experience of working across multiple channels (some or all of digital content, digital tools, assisted digital, webchat, phone, face to face)
- Significant experience of line management and people development
- A deep understanding of digital approaches and selection where necessary e.g. buy, build or rent
- Deep knowledge of infrastructure concepts, protocols and standards, including Active Directory, group policies, various hosting options, SSL, SAN, business continuity and disaster recovery
- High level of management skills, with emphasis on technical design, implementation and interpersonal skills
- Expert in understanding the business environment of the organisation and closely associated organisations and the organisation’s technical platforms
- Expert in understanding the functional structure of businesses and other organisations; their mission, objectives, strategies, and critical success factors. Knowledge and understanding of organisational culture
- Knowledge of relevant current and emerging legislation pertaining to the Government/ Public Sector IT e.g. Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, Brexit
- Experience managing large budgets, projects and teams
- Experience with managing technology suppliers and partners
- Experience managing and navigating complex landscapes and relationships
- Experience of developing services that takes account of the needs of diverse users
