About the role

The role of Head of infrastructure is critical for North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) because it provides a focused lead delivering technical operations as well as the strategic outcomes of the work that we build together with our strategy and architecture teams.

The role operates at a senior level to ensure that we are pulling together the wider aspirations of the core infrastructure of the organisation, addressing architecture, networks servers and skills required. 

What will you be doing?

This role will:

  • Focus on how we unify, rationalise, modernise and scale our infrastructure including data centres
  • Work on programmes and projects to update legacy environment and infrastructure across NNC
  • Support the day to day operations of our infrastructure and leading the teams to reactively resolve any issues
  • Work with our suppliers and infrastructure partners and contractors to ensure we are getting best value and infrastructure for NNC
  • Involve forward thinking about our infrastructure estate and working closely with the Enterprise Architect to feed this into our strategic/ technical roadmap and architecture.
  • Ensure we have adequate, planning and capacity to pick on service programmes and projects that also encompass need for IT resources
  • Ensure that the right platforms are in place and working to support our transformation 
  • Work through Business continuity and Disaster recovery for the service
  • Create the link between Technology infrastructure and service needs.
  • Strategically plan our response to cater proactively for issues and also reactive incidents.

About you

  • Technical knowledge of modern technology practices around infrastructure, hosting and platforms
  • Experience of managing complex infrastructure programmes
  • Experience in managing and configuring enterprise-wide networks including LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, etc. 
  • Good understanding of the principles and application of cloud/ virtualisation (including ownership, responsibilities and security implications).
  •  Experience in managing large budgets and teams
