Microsoft 365 Platform Engineer

Your differences make us different - #achievetogether

About the role

North Northamptonshire Council is on track to deliver on its technology transformation and a major component is our M365 environment. We are looking for someone to lead the charge on building the dedicated skillsets we need to maximise the value from our M365 investment. We are looking for someone to be engaged in the evolution of the platform as we make more and more use of it. We are running several exciting projects alongside Microsoft and its partners, and we need someone to support these projects and manage the day to day operation of the tenant.

The role will involve practical management and development of the M365 platform, including creating/defining application policies, environment security, authentication services and driving and monitoring platform adoption. Become an organisation subject matter expert on M365 related products (including Teams, SharePoint, Exchange, Entra etc) and work with other technical colleagues to ensure the service operates smoothly and securely. Work closely with both Microsoft and other 3rd parties, to drive innovation and maximise value from the organisation’s investment into the M365 platform.

What will you be doing?

Here's a bit more detail about what you may be doing if you joined our team :

  • Be a hands-on escalation point (3rd-line) for any user support incidents which relate to the M365 platform.
  • Design and support of SharePoint/Teams solutions, in line with business objectives for file storage and collaboration.
  • Work as part of project teams to deliver any required M365 integrations and services required to support the project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from infrastructure and service delivery teams to maintain and support the M365 environment in line with Microsoft best practice, and ensure the environment is secure and monitored at all times.
  • Define and implement application, security and monitoring policies in-line with Microsoft best practice.
  • Work closely with solution architects to ensure technical designs encompass best practice with regards to the M365 platform, particularly around authentication and data sharing.
  • Champion the M35 platform and highlight areas where its use could create added value from the existing investment.

About you

We're looking for someone with a strong technical support background who is either  already operating as, or who aspires to develop into an M365 specialist.

You need to be comfortable collaborating with others and working directly with our end-users at all levels to drive adoption and build solutions that meet their needs. Overall we want someone keen to learn and help us to maximise the value for our colleagues and residents from our investment in this key technology stack.

We're ideally looking for a minimum of:

  • At least 2 years’ experience supporting the Microsoft 365 suite in an enterprise environment (this may be your full, or just a significant part of your experience)
  • Clearly demonstrable knowledge around the M365 and Microsoft Power Platform
  • Significant experience supporting Teams and Sharepoint for data sharing and collaboration
  • Experience working in both project and user-based support environments
  • Experience working in a fast-paced service desk environment
  • A working and demonstrable knowledge of ITIL processes, around change and incident management

If you have any of the following experience or qualifications then we think that would add great value for us:

  • Experience operating in a dedicated M365 support team
  • Direct involvement in project relating to building enterprise Teams/SharePoint file storage structures and migrating from traditional file storage
  • Specific knowledge around the use of the M365 Power Platform
  • Any experience managing the M365 data governance controls e.g data loss prevention, sensitivity labels, document tagging and conditional access.

We've also attached the full person and job specification below which will give you even more detail on what the role entails.
