About the role

Do you want to be part of the improvement and development of our Waste and Recycling Collection Service?

The Place and Economy Directorate prides itself on the service it provides to the residents of North Northamptonshire.  We are looking to recruit more people who take pride in their work and want to help the Council meet its commitment to providing quality services to enhance the environment and increase its recycling rate.

The operation manager is responsible for the delivery of the Council’s most visible frontline services, with responsibility for managing a busy operational team with a large in-house workforce undertaking street cleansing and waste collection activities across the district daily.

It is a busy operational environment where circumstances and priorities constantly change.  The services operate between 6am – 8.00pm and whilst you will work a 37 hour week, flexibility is essential as you will sometimes be required to work early, or late, depending on the service needs.

The service works out of four operating centres, so you will be required to work from a variety of locations.

What will you be doing?

As our Operations manager you will manage a team of operational supervisors across a range of activities including domestic and commercial waste & recycling collections, street cleaning and associated services.

You will ensure that waste and street cleansing arisings are disposed of via the agreed disposal routes, reporting on the performance of operational crews and taking appropriate corrective action as necessary

You will monitor the financial performance of the operational service to assist in effective budgetary control.

You’ll ensure that service delivery is proactive and reflects customer needs, providing high standards of service delivery, and where the service fails, to resolve complaints and respond appropriately.

About you

You will be an experienced waste manager who is well-motivated and enthusiastic.

Your understanding of environmental issues facing the waste industry and experience of managing operational staff will be essential.

You will need to be competent using a variety of IT systems, with excellent communication skills and experience of dealing with a variety of stakeholders.

You will be responsible for the delivery of the Council’s most visible frontline services, with responsibility for managing a busy operational team with a large in-house workforce undertaking street cleansing and waste collection activities across the district daily.
