About the role

THIS OPPORTUNITY IS FOR INTERNAL CANDIDATES ONLY

The main objective of this post is to contribute to the successful implementation of the LEVI project. The project, sponsored by the Department for Transport, aims to support the transition to sustainable transportation by increasing the availability of public electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The post holder will play a vital role in supporting the Principal Project Officer and the wider project team. The key responsibilities of the post holder will involve identifying optimal locations for infrastructure deployment, evaluating them based on agreed criteria, and collaborating with the local DNO (Distribution Network Operator) to conduct feasibility assessments. Additionally, the post holder will assist in preparing procurement documentation and gathering relevant information to make well-informed decisions upon receiving proposals from charge point operators. The role will also contribute to project governance and communication activities.

What will you be doing?

1.  Provide direct support to the Principal Project Officer through the provision of project management information and reports relating to the LEVI-funded project.

2. Identify suitable locations for EV charging infrastructure based upon factors such as local availability of off-street parking, population density, accessibility for EV owners and the availability of local amenities.

3. Conduct feasibility assessments for potential charging hubs considering factors like site suitability, cost and electrical grid capacity.

4. Ensure that the necessary systems and records are in place, up to date and sound to support project management, audit and other requirements.

5. Support and maintain good project governance arrangements and engagement with the LEVI project team to drive forward the project.

6. Input to the LEVI project risk register

7. Prepare a monthly project highlight and monitoring report

8. Help to identify future funding opportunities and develop bids and business cases to secure funding to support further initiatives to support EVs and micro-mobility solutions

9. Support engagement and communications activities, including with local councils, communities and businesses, to ensure an informed and effective approach to EVs, including input to a demand registration and engagement tool

10. Maintain accurate records, reports and documentation related to EV charging infrastructure, including contracts, permits and service agreements.

11. Demonstrate awareness/understanding of equal opportunities and other people’s behavioural, physical, social and welfare needs

12. Ensure that reasonable care is taken at all times for the health, safety and welfare of yourself and other persons, and to comply with the policies and procedures relating to health and safety within the department

13. Carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope and purpose of this job description and which are commensurate with the grade of the post

About you

Education and Qualifications

Essential Criteria:


Educated to degree-level or equivalent in a relevant subject, or equivalent by experience

Desirable Criteria:

Project management training

Experience and Knowledge

Essential Criteria:


Experience in a project-related environment

Contract management experience

Experience of co-ordinating funding programme claims, budget monitoring and related systems

Experience of identifying problems and appropriate remedies and actions in a project, or comparable environment

Experience of partnership working in a complex environment

Desirable Criteria:

Understanding of the Future of Mobility and Ultra Low Emission Vehicle agendas

Experience of working on an Electric Vehicle infrastructure project

Clear understanding of the local government environment, political awareness and the major influences and challenges it faces

Experience of producing detailed procurement documentation

Abilities and Skills

Essential Criteria:


Ability to provide insight and analysis of complex information

Thorough with keen attention to detail

Enthusiastic, not easily deterred and able to instil enthusiasm in others

Able to work under pressure

High level written and oral  communication skills, including an ability to present complex issues clearly and confidently to a range of audiences

Good numeracy skills

Flexible attitude to take on other projects if required

Competency in the use of Word and PowerPoint software and high competency in the use of Excel.
