About the role
Our Internal Audit service is recognised for its professional, pro-active and supportive approach. We work with all Council services in improving controls, managing risk and driving forward performance in the face of financial and non-financial challenges.
We are looking to grow our Internal Audit team and are keen to hear from potential Senior Auditors who have a passion for working in the public sector and enjoy the challenge of a varied workload. Senior Auditors play a vital role in the delivery of our audit plan and will be relied upon for conducting audit work across a number of service areas, processes and systems.
We work with a range of service areas, making every day different, and deliver internal audit work for a range of external partners. We are currently the trusted internal audit service for a further four local authorities and a housing association; and regularly deliver audits for a range of schools and academy trusts across the region. This will provide the successful applicant with opportunities to develop new skillsets and experience in various settings.
Our current working arrangements rely on remote and flexible working, which enables us to be responsive to our customers and be available to attend Council sites as needed. Some of our customers are based in Leicestershire, Rutland and Cambridgeshire – so we would be keen to hear from any applicants who are interested in working in these geographic areas.
We would also be willing to consider applications for part-time or term-time working.
What will you be doing?
The successful applicant will be required to plan and deliver audits which will provide assurance over the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls operating for the Council and its partners.
The role will require the post holder to identify risks, assess controls and inform an assurance opinion over a diverse range of services delivered to our local communities.
The role will assist in providing clients with independent assurance that their service is being delivered in line with statutory requirements, risks are identified and effectively managed, control systems are appropriate and value for money is achieved in line with the Council’s objectives.
About you
You should be either AAT qualified or part IIA / CCAB qualified for this role, with support available to progress your training further.
You should have experience in conducting audit and/or assurance work (from planning stages to reporting findings) ideally in relation to both financial and non-financial risks and systems.
Previous experience within local government audit, risk management or counter fraud is beneficial but even more important is your commitment to learn and apply your skills to benefit your career and our customers in the public sector. This is an ideal opportunity to further develop your experience and skills for a fulfilling internal audit career.
