About the role
We are looking for an experienced and analytical Senior Finance and Data Officer to join our Travel to School (T2S) service. This is a key role within a busy and impactful team that helps provide transport services for thousands of children and young people across North Northamptonshire.
You will play a leading role in managing, analysing and interpreting financial and operational data to support effective decision-making, service performance and statutory financial reporting. Working closely with managers, finance colleagues and external stakeholders, you will ensure the service has access to accurate, meaningful information that drives continuous improvement and delivers value for money.
As a senior member of the team, you will oversee key financial processes, support audit requirements, supervise the day-to-day work of a Commercial Assistant and contribute to the strategic development of the service. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining finance, data analysis and problem-solving within a role that makes a real difference to local communities.
What will you be doing?
As Senior Finance and Data officer you will
- Managing and analysing large volumes of financial and operational data to support service delivery and strategic decision-making.
- Producing reports, forecasts, reconciliations and financial information to support statutory reporting and budget management.
- Performing key finance functions including the processing and validation of supplier invoices, mileage claims and personal travel budgets.
- Preparing month-end journals, monitoring cost codes and reconciling financial records.
- Providing clear analysis, insight and recommendations to managers and stakeholders.
- Supporting medium-term financial planning, forecasting and budget development.
- Acting as the primary contact for internal and external audit requests, ensuring compliance with financial and regulatory requirements.
- Supervising and allocating work to a Commercial Assistant, providing performance information and day-to-day guidance.
- Managing data flows and financial reporting requirements for partner services that receive transport support.
- Developing and improving financial and data processes, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and enhance service delivery.
- Using technology, including data analytics tools and AI-enabled solutions, to improve reporting, analysis and operational performance.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, providers and stakeholders to identify opportunities for service improvements and cost-effective solutions.
- Ensuring all data is managed in accordance with GDPR and council policies.
