About the role
The Travel Coordination Officer works as part of a team to assess and review school transport eligibility applications. There is a requirement for high standards of accuracy and attention to detail. The Officer must work to the appropriate standards of customer care and with the correct regulation interpretation in respect of policy.
Good interpersonal and analytical skills are essential, including the ability to explain eligibility decisions to NNC Officers, Schools and members of the public.
What will you be doing?
You will be:
Assessing eligibility for transport based upon information available from the application and other records, and in accordance with the Policy and legislation which underpins the service. Identifying appropriate travel solutions to meet the needs of the applicants, many of whom will have Special Educational Needs or Disabilities.
Maintaining accurate records of applications and their outcomes.
Communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, including schools, families and service users, as well as with colleagues, both in writing and verbally to ensure that the applications are dealt with correctly and promptly and that the service provided for the service users meets their needs and is reliable, whilst also providing the Best Value for the Council.
About you
You will have good levels of spoken and written English and an ability to relay (in writing and verbally) complex eligibility issues in plain English to a variety of stakeholders.
You will be confident analysing transport issues and offer sound, reliable, travel solutions for children and young people, especially those with additional needs or disabilities. Experience of working in a similar role would therefore be an advantage.
Able to work under your own initiative, within the framework set by legislation and policy, you will have the ability to plan and organise your time to ensure that deadlines and agreed targets are met, whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and consistency. Workload varies across the year, but is particularly high over the Summer months, so you will need to be able to continue to work effectively and consistently even under pressure.
We use MS Desktop applications to deliver our services effectively and efficiently, with a strong reliance on Teams and Excel. Experience of using a sophisticated database administration systems package and associated reporting tools would also be advantageous.
Above all we are looking for someone who is a strong team player, able and willing to work with their colleagues in a very busy environment, and play a key part in delivering high quality, affordable and sustainable services for the Residents of North Northamptonshire.
