About the role
Permanent Post 16 Education Officer within the Virtual School.
To apply you should already have a high level of knowledge and experience of working with post 16 young people in care.
Who we are:
The Virtual School is a team of experienced teachers and dedicated educational professionals. We promote and support the educational attainment and progress of Northamptonshire's children in care and children previously in care.
We do this by:
- championing the educational needs of children in care
- providing advice and information to education settings
- monitoring the attendance and educational progress of children in care
- supporting education settings to complete effective and high-quality Personal Education Plans (PEPs)
- promoting a culture which considers the child's views, and helps their view shape their PEP
- providing dedicated training for education settings, designated teachers, social workers and carers
- organising and delivering participation activities to provide children with new experiences
- allocating Pupil Premium Plus (PP+) funding for eligible statutory school age children in care
- working with education settings to ensure PP+ funding is used effectively to promote each child's educational attainment and progress
- promoting the educational achievement of previously looked-after children by providing information and advice to parents, guardians and educators
What will you be doing?
Ensuring education settings and other professionals fulfil their obligations in relation to the provision of education to young people in care. Working with partners to support young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET).
About you
We are looking to recruit a highly experienced professional with an excellent knowledge and current experience of delivering improved educational outcomes for post 16 young people in care. You will need to understand the needs, entitlements and current educational guidance that applies to young people in care and be able to demonstrate experience of how you have effectively applied this. You will need to have knowledge and relationship with the post 16 sector and partners. You need to be solution focussed and be able to manage a changing workload. You will need to have excellent communication skills and have experience of building good working relationships. You must be able to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
Where you will be working:
NNC has a flexible working policy however you will be required to attend meetings in Northamptonshire.
