Launch Your Career as a Gas Operative Apprentice
We're recruiting for Gas Operative Apprentices to join our Housing Maintenance and Developments team and develop the skills needed for a successful career in the gas and heating industry.
As a Gas Operative Apprentice, you'll work alongside experienced tradespeople, supporting the delivery of high-quality repairs, maintenance, and improvement works across North Northamptonshire Council's housing properties. Combining practical, hands-on experience with formal training, you'll work towards achieving the Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Apprenticeship, gaining the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a qualified Gas Operative. This is an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn, develop valuable trade skills, and make a real difference to our tenants and communities.
What will you be doing?
As a Gas Operative Apprentice, you'll combine practical, on-the-job experience with formal training to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a qualified Gas Operative.
You will:
- Work towards achieving the Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Apprenticeship, aiming for a Pass or Distinction.
- Support qualified Gas Operatives with repairs, maintenance and servicing work across North Northamptonshire Council's housing properties.
- Carry out site-based tasks under the guidance of a Repairs Officer, Repairs and Maintenance Co-ordinator or Mentor, applying knowledge gained through both workplace experience and college learning.
- Learn from experienced professionals, developing an understanding of the gas and heating trade and building the skills needed for a successful career.
- Attend all required training, college sessions and mentoring meetings to support your development.
- Continuously develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours in line with the apprenticeship standard.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, reporting hazards promptly and adhering to the Council's Health and Safety Management System at all times.
- Assist with a range of duties including trade work, labouring activities and administrative tasks as required.
- Work in a variety of environments and weather conditions while safely handling tools, equipment and materials.

About you
- GCSE Maths and English at grades A-C or 4-9 or equivalent is Essential.
- Ability to travel to college within Northamptonshire / Leicestershire for day release
