Active Communities - Summer Leader

Your differences make us different - #achievetogether

About the role

We are excited to be recruiting for 2 x Summer Leader posts that will join our busy Active Communities team for the Summer period. The team runs a number of different summer schemes and programmes across North Northants including the very popular SPLAT Holiday Club in Corby which is also a Healthy Food Activity (HAF) scheme.

We are looking for 2 x Summer Leaders to work together to oversee the day to day running and delivery of the SPLAT holiday club. The SPLAT Holiday Club is OFSTED registered, is for 5-12 years, is a multi-activity club for all abilities, runs every week day 7.30am - 5.30pm (School Holidays) and is based at Lodge Park Sports Centre in Corby. SPLAT offers a variety of fun, engaging and educational activities and with no two days being the same including crafts, sports, dance, music, drama and games.

The contract is listed from 15th July through to 2nd September 2025 which covers several training days required before the school holidays and SPLAT starts on the 23rd July 2025. We recognise that candidates may have other commitments so we are offering flexible training times over the weekdays, evenings and weekends before the start of the role to suit availability, however this training must be completed before the start of the scheme.

Although the main role of the Summer Leaders will be to work within SPLAT, there may also be the opportunity for the Summer Leaders to support some of the other exciting activities happening across North Northants including Fundays, Play and Sports sessions and other events.

What will you be doing?

Each Summer Leader will be working within the SPLAT Holiday Club Scheme supporting children throughout the day, leading sessions and activities, ensuring children have the best time while they are at the SPLAT Holiday Club.

Leaders will oversee the team of Summer Assistants, including allocation of their daily duties, supporting with training and personal development and giving performance feedback, however the overall management responsibility for the SPLAT scheme comes under the NNC Active Communities team.

Each Leader will work either a 7.30am - 2.30pm or 11.30am - 6.30pm shift each day and be expected to complete the rest of their weekly hours outside of the scheme by completing admin duties such as organising rotas and contacting staff, pre-planning for additional activities, readying and purchasing equipment and completing any reports required.

Although activities have already been pre-planned for every day, the Summer Leaders will need to ensure that activities are safe, fun and that the children are engaged and make changes to programmed activities if required. The Leaders will also need to ensure that their team leaves the facility, which is used by the public, clean and tidy at the end of the day and that store cupboards are organised ready for use.

The Summer Leaders will also have the responsibility of providing positive communication with parents and guardians, giving feedback and effectively dealing with any enquiries.
